Some however, have questioned the fact that there are live lab classes which are hands on which may not be able to be taught online. So for some courses just the basic workbook training, or written skills are used rather than an actual classroom. if you have given it a thought whether this is a route you should take then consider the fact that most of the courses in the real world offline are covered in a matter of a week or 2. This means it may be better if your attentiveness and memory are not as accurate through just visual to actually just take a normal class.

Quite a few community colleges do offer CNA training classes online, but will require you to remember all that you have learned through some sort of final exam.

Some states however may have different rules about taking online CNA courses. California for example may only let you take the didactic part online only for credit. According to sources, they do not allow the Excelsior program for RNs to be done online.

Having a course that the State board allows where you live can pose a problem, so it is best to check and make sure before you pay for an online CNA class that it will be accepted and accredited to you upon completion, otherwise you may have spent as much as $2000 for something that will not have any benefit as far as certification is concerned.

One of the CNAs main roles is to keep and eye over the patients in their establishment. This could mean checking to make sure everyone has food and drink, or making sure people are bathed and washed at correct times etc. Any heath issues that pop up they will report to the main nurse immediately, who will then deal with it. They will sometimes be given the task of taking temperatures, checking for bumps and bruises and other minor medical tasks that require little or no training.

Often a CNA will be given jobs such as taking food to patients or clearing up after them. Depending on where they are located, they may also clean up after meals, set out the dinner tables, escort patients to their therapy or other location and in general do any jobs that need doing.

Although not written down as an actual job, one of the CNAs biggest responsibilities is being a friend to many of the patients. Many of them, especially the residents, are unlikely to have visitors a lot of the time and because of this may get very lonely. So a CNA will talk to them, chat to them and be a friend so they can talk about worries or any other important issues that may affect them. This is a very important aspect of their job as someone being secluded and lonely is a horrible thing, and can lead ultimately to depression.

A CNA will also be responsible for some admin work if applicable.
